Response

Meagan:

To understand how white privilege and racism are related, both terms must be defined. Racism is defined as “the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people” (Wajuntah, 2022). White privilege is a societal term that highlights the advantages that a white person has over a non-white person, due to their skin color. White privilege is a social construct formed from the discrimination of racism. This exists due to generations of history favoring and glorifying people who are white. Peggy explains this perfectly when she says “as a white person, I realized I had been taught about racism as something that

puts others at a disadvantage, but had been taught not to see one of its corollary aspects, white privilege, which puts me at an advantage” (McIntosh, 1989).

As a white person, I can go into a store and I am not questioned or watched; however, my indigenous partner does not have that freedom. Security is often called on him, or he is followed until he reaches the tills. The color of my skin automatically gives me an advantage in society, while racism works against my partner.

Treating Patients With Insomnia Disorders

Assignment 2: Assessing and Treating Patients With Sleep/Wake Disorders

Sleep disorders are conditions that result in changes in an individual’s pattern of sleep (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Not surprisingly, a sleep disorder can affect an individual’s overall health, safety, and quality of life. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can treat sleep disorders with psychopharmacologic treatments, however, many of these drugs can have negative effects on other aspects of a patient’s health and well-being. Additionally, while psychopharmacologic treatments may be able to address issues with sleep, they can also exert potential challenges with waking patterns. Thus, it is important for the psychiatric nurse practitioner to carefully evaluate the best psychopharmacologic treatments for patients that present with sleep/wake disorders.

The Influenza virus alone has different subcategories kind of like the mother of all viruses who decided to have little off springs who turned out just like her.

The topic for week 2 discussion is the Influenza Virus, strain H1N1 (Swine Flu). The Influenza virus alone has different subcategories kind of like the mother of all viruses who decided to have little off springs who turned out just like her. According to Morgrdige article Influenzas Virus Fact Sheet, all the subcategories are based on two proteins on the surface of the virus. They are the Hemagglution (H) and the Neuramindase (N). There are 16 known types of Hemagglution (H) and 9 known types of Nuramidase (N), so that is how typically the little ones are named so to say.

“Swine Flu” was typically found in pigs. Latter on in 2009 it was spreading like wildfire and soon enough people who werent even coming in contact with pigs were getting sick with the same Virus. The symptoms led off to be as your basic common cold or flu issues. The WHO (World Health Organization) then labeled it as a epidemics. Rest assured though, people can feel protected if they choose due to the fact that the CDC came up with a basic Influenza vaccine that covers most strains of the Virus, this one included.

In today’s media, the hype is now more than what it seems. People tend to lead on more than what there really is just for the rating. As well as more and more people seem to depend on the media to make there every day basic decisions. According to Time magazine, in an article found in the Time Health section, This Years Flu is now as bad as 2009 Swine Flu Epidemic, CDC., is your basic news scare to have people divided to be on one side of the fence than the other. Some people say that the vaccines are a gift from the God’s while other’s disgrace of it. Although eating healthy and being healthy isn’t always full proof, other’s will ten to disagree. Regardless of not of your opinion it is a personal choice I feel and one should not leave it up to the media to play a part in such an important role of your health.

Instruction: you will respond to the original post in 100-150 words in a substantive manner.  The post must move the science discussion of the microbe forward.  You must paraphrase from all sources and cite in text as well as provide full end ref information in APA format.  You may never use Wikipedia or any other Open Source to support college level work!  You must paraphrase from all sources as direct quotation is not acceptable in science writing. Word count does not include references!

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

Let’s continue to expand on what has been learned so far. Continue your analysis of the disease or infection you have been investigating in Weeks 1 and 2. An important characteristic of a medical professional is to make sense of information and then continue to ask questions to collect additional information.

You will practice this as you respond to this week’s question. For each of the following, answer the question and then describe what additional questions you might be able to investigate to gain additional information that might enhance your understanding.

  • What is its genetic composition?

Guess Your Bacteria After:

Week 1:

Micrococcus luteus

Week 2:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa

My unknown bacteria is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Based upon the Gram Stain provided, the unknown was determined to be Gram-negative. This was interpreted based on the cells being stained pink. In addition, the microorganism’s shape appeared to be rod-like and in a single arrangement. They were seen individually and not in a group or cluster. From all three sugars of glucose, sucrose, and lactose, none of them developed a reaction in the phenol red broth. These results are presented as red test tubes with no bubbles. A lack of reaction based upon these images mean there is no fermentation of carbohydrates. The streak plate provided did not display single individual colonies. They remained in big clusters, allowing no identification to be done. The pigment present is neon green. Due to the unidentifiable nature of the streak plate’s results, the colony morphology was undetermined.

Discussion:

The method used to determine the unknown was through comparison of my identified results and the chart of organisms. By identifying carbohydrate fermentation, all organisms were eliminated with the exception of Micrococcus luteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The official determination of the unknown organism is when the gram-negative result was determined. It eliminated the micrococcus luteus organism, and kept the current identified organism. To ensure the organism was right, the pigment color was checked and determined to match the image provided.
