Healthcare Strategic Planning and Operation Problems and Remedial Action Plans

Introduction

The goal of this course is to gain a thorough familiarity with the workings of a healthcare organization or system by assessing its core components and functions, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and provide a potential and feasible remedial action plan for the weaknesses identified.

In each module, we will focus on one such component / function:

  • Module 1 – Organizational Assessment
  • Module 2 – Leadership
  • Module 3 – Strategic Planning, Operations, and HRM.
  • Module 4 – Finance and Reimbursement
  • Module 5 – Legal and Ethical Issues

The Assignment:

  1. Congratulations – you have been appointed (by me) as the new CEO of your organization.
  2. Based on: (a) Your choice of a healthcare organization, (b) Your outline of a strategic assessment of said organization as completed in the Culminating Project Integrative Matrix, (c) The feedback you received from your instructor and (d) your case assignment paper:
  3. Present
  4.  a remedial action plan for the weakness(es) identified in the component / function area of: Strategic Planning, Operations, and HRM. 
  5. What will you need in terms of resources to make this plan work?
  6. How will the effectiveness (success) of your plan be measured?

NOTE: Aggregate all modular Case and SLP papers as you proceed (like chapters in a book), e.g., case #3 will include cases 1+2+3.

Expectations:

Writing Style: At least 3 pages typed in Times New Roman font #12, double-spaced, page margins – one inch all around, and appropriate references.

The following items will be assessed in particular:

  • PRECISION: Each of the questions of the assignment is specifically addressed in the paper.
  • CLARITY: The paper reads clearly (i.e., it is not confusing) and is well-structured.
  • BREADTH: The paper presents appropriate breadth covering the questions of the assignment.
  • DEPTH: The paper presents points that lead to a deeper understanding of the matters and/or issues being discussed and integrates several points into coherent conclusions.
  • APPLICATION: Your assignment reflects an application of concepts, principles, and values acquired from your core course work to a “real life” health care management problem in a “real world” workplace setting.
