Firstly, Landry (2018) argues that the challenges faced by nurse practitioners in the delivery of culturally sensitive care are not due to the nurses aversion or unwillingness to offer such care but rather because of their lack of knowledge and inexperience regarding the health care needs of LGBTQI patients. Secondly, the lack of awareness by health care professionals regarding the health care needs of LGBTQ1 patients exposes them to considerable degrees of bias, intolerance, and discrimination from the health care system. Thirdly, the discrimination experienced by this group of patients from the health care system affects them adversely because it reduces their health care outcomes and increases the health care that exists between mainstream and transsexual patients (Landry, 2018). After I become a nurse practitioner, my positive impact on the health of transsexual patients will be through developing awareness and increasing knowledge regarding the health care needs of the groups to deliver quality care. I will endeavor to interact with LGBTQ1 patients as much as possible to understand them better. Some of the attitudes and behaviors that I need to succeed in this venture include patience, tolerance, empathy, compassion, and inclusivity. When dealing with the patients, I will also communicate in a considerate manner and avoid judgmental or stereotypical assertions or assumptions. The specific screenings or interventions I will incorporate into practice when caring for the patients include cervix examination and screening for retained body organs (Landry, 2018).Article 2Paradiso, C. and Lally, R. Transgender Health, 3(1), 46-57.The main objective of this investigative study by Paradiso and Larry (2018) was to evaluate and discuss the attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge that nurse practitioners have regarding caring for transgender individuals. Several essential takeaway thoughts can be deduced from the article. Firstly, these researchers argue that a considerable percentage of transgender individuals are discriminated against by the health care system due to the stigmatization and stereotyping they face from health care professionals who find it awkward to discuss a patients sexual preference or identity (Paradiso and Larry, 2018). Secondly, this article defines the kind of health care which may be described as adequate for transgender populations; such care is safe and delivered using a holistic approach to increase transgender individuals access to quality health care. I will positively influence the care offered to transgender individuals by making sure that the clinic environment is welcoming, comfortable, and convivial for them. I will also be tolerant towards them and develop a commitment to comprehend the different biological, social, and cultural issues which influence their sexual identity or orientation (Paradiso and Larry, 2018). To achieve this objective, I must develop and cultivate attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs such as inclusivity, tolerance, empathy, understanding, and accommodating of the patient and their needs. A helpful intervention/screening tool is the gender assessment questionnaire, which will allow patients to voice their genders identities and the names/titles or pronouns they wish to be used when addressing them. This will make the transgender individuals feel welcome and respected by the health care system and reduce the level of discomfort that a nurse practitioner may experience when delivering care to such a patient.ReferencesLandry, J.
