The goal of this course is to gain a thorough familiarity with the workings of a healthcare organization or system by assessing its core components and functions, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and provide a potential and feasible remedial action plan for the weaknesses identified.

In each module, we will focus on one such component / function:

  • Module 1 – Organizational Assessment
  • Module 2 – Leadership
  • Module 3 – Strategic Planning, Operations, and HRM.
  • Module 4 – Finance and Reimbursement
  • Module 5 – Legal and Ethical Issues

The SLP Assignments:

SLP 1 – requires you to present your leadership and organizational approach to dealing with organizational deficiencies / weaknesses.

  1. What mechanisms will you implement with your team/staff in identifying, mapping, and dealing with said weaknesses?
  2. Who /what organization level (corporate, department, function) will prepare and/or  execute the remedial action plans you make?
  3. How will you set control measures to monitor the effectiveness (success) of your remedial plans?

In the following modules 2-5 you will (as the newly appointed (by me) CEO of your organization) prepare remedial action plans for the weakness(es) identified in the component / function area of: Leadership; Strategic Planning, Operations, and HRM; Finance and Reimbursement; Legal and Ethical Issues.

Expectations:

Writing Style: At least 3 pages typed in Times New Roman font #12, double-spaced, page margins – one inch all around, and appropriate references.

The following items will be assessed in particular:

  • PRECISION: Each of the questions of the assignment is specifically addressed in the paper.
  • CLARITY: The paper reads clearly (i.e., it is not confusing) and is well-structured.
  • BREADTH: The paper presents appropriate breadth covering the questions of the assignment.
  • DEPTH: The paper presents points that lead to a deeper understanding of the matters and/or issues being discussed and integrates several points into coherent conclusions.
  • APPLICATION: Your assignment reflects an application of concepts, principles, and values acquired from your core course work to a “real life” health care management problem in a “real world” workplace setting.
