Self-regulatory organizations such as the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers play an important role in the securities industry.Global industries, such as the infant formula industry and the agricultural chemicals industry, are guided by industry-supported codes of conduct.Self-regulation is also common among professionals such as lawyers, physicians, architects, accountants, and dentists.Many industries engage in some form of self-regulation and according to Short (2013) it’s either a “Blue Moon” or “Bad Moon.”Why do some measures of self-regulation succeed, and others are likely to fail?

Choose a position whether you are in favor of or against the North Carolina and West Virginia state regulatory agencies taking a more industry friendly approach with regards to the enforcement of clean air and water provisions?
