Lab 8 Identifying an Unknown Organism BIO250L”

TestObservations

Gram stain

When doing the gram staining, it was negative because the bacteria accepted the safranin after

decolorization and stained pink or red on the gram

staining.

FTM

The bacteria were mostly at the top of the test and moved slowly through the who thing, so I

knew it was facultative anaerobes.

Starch test When performing the starch test and finding that

there is no clear zone formation, so it was negative

4.

4.What was the species of your assigned microorganism? Describe how you used your dichotomous key to come to this conclusion. Include any relevant tests and how the

results helped you draw your conclusion. I used my key by going through the test and determining whether it was a yes or no, negative or positive, whether the cell morphology was shiny mucoids and slightly raised, or whether the cell morphology was rods, and that the cell arrangement was single and even the gram staining was negative and such ftm tube detected FA (facultative anaerobes), which led me to the conclusion

that it was Escherichia coil.

Insert screenshots of your tests for your microorganism:
